A Response to RIVM’s Categorization of E-Cigarettes
New research on e-cigarettes continues to fuel debate around the balance between toxicological risk and tobacco harm reduction. While some studies identify potentially harmful compounds generated during heating and flavouring processes, researchers also note that exposure levels in non-combustible nicotine products remain substantially lower than those associated with cigarette smoke. The growing body of evidence highlights the importance of distinguishing between absolute risk and relative risk when evaluating nicotine products in public health policy. Scientists increasingly argue that toxicological findings should be interpreted within the broader context of smoking-related disease prevention and harm reduction strategies.
19.30% of the adult population are current smokers. There are approximately 3.0 million current smokers in Netherlands 22.00% of men are current smokers but only 16.70% of women.
