A fairer fight against lung cancer must start before diagnosis
A fairer fight against lung cancer starts by focusing on the people still most exposed to smoke. Smoking remains the dominant preventable cause, yet too many smokers are given warnings without enough realistic routes away from combustible tobacco. Tobacco harm reduction can strengthen prevention by reducing exposure before disease develops. The goal should be practical risk reduction for those at highest risk, not a public health model that only rewards complete abstinence.
11.00% of the adult population are current smokers. There are approximately 2.4 million current smokers in Australia 12.90% of men are current smokers but only 9.30% of women.
