Youth Tobacco Product Use at a 25-Year Low, Yet Disparities Persist
The 2024 National Youth Tobacco Survey shows a decrease in U.S. middle and high school students using tobacco products, reaching a 25-year low. The decline is significant in e-cigarettes and hookah use. Despite progress, more than 2 million youths still use tobacco. E-cigarettes remain the most used product, but their usage decreased, while nicotine pouches became the second most common. Progress varies among different groups. Public health efforts, including regulations by CDC and FDA, contributed to this decline. Continued efforts are essential to reduce all forms of tobacco use among youth and address disparities.
