Wisconsin Urged to Make Smoking-Cessation Tools Less Accessible

The American Lung Association urges Wisconsin to address high smoking rates by implementing policies proven to save lives, like raising the tobacco sale age to 21 and equalizing taxes on e-cigarettes and cigarettes. However, they fail to mention safer nicotine products like vapes and snus, which have shown higher quit rates than nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). Despite evidence supporting the effectiveness of these alternatives, the ALA and Wisconsin health department focus on restricting access to them, citing concerns about addiction among youth. Critics argue that encouraging adult smokers to switch to safer options, like e-cigarettes, would be a more beneficial approach to reducing smoking-related harm.
