UK Vaping Duty Takes Effect
The UK’s Vaping Products Duty began October 1, charging £2.20 per 10ml of vaping liquid, including nicotine-free products. Duty stamps become mandatory for all products sold from April 1, 2027, after a grace period for existing stock. Non-compliance risks seizures, fines and criminal penalties. The government aims to discourage vaping among young people and nonsmokers, alongside higher tobacco duties. Industry representatives warn higher prices could drive consumers toward smoking or illicit products and increase retailers’ compliance burdens. The duty is projected to raise over £550 million annually by 2030–31, while £30 million annually through 2028–29 will support enforcement against illicit and underage tobacco and vape sales.
11.80% of the adult population are current smokers. There are approximately 6.7 million current smokers in United Kingdom 13.60% of men are current smokers but only 10.10% of women.
