Tobacco Regulation: Asia
Asia’s nicotine regulation is moving in many directions at once: tighter cigarette controls, new rules for vapes, disputes over pouches and continued pressure from illicit trade. That patchwork matters because adult smokers do not experience policy as a regional trend; they experience it as access, price, risk information and legal certainty. Regulation that ignores product differences can protect cigarettes by default. A stronger approach would recognise local realities while keeping the goal clear: less smoking, less combustion and fewer preventable harms.
