If research fails to account for smoking history, product use patterns or the difference between association and causation, it risks misleading policymakers and the public. Vaping should be scrutinised, but the evidence must be held to serious scientific standards. Harm reduction policy should be guided by robust data, not studies that confuse risk rather than clarify it.
