Sweden’s challenge to Poland’s tough vape and nicotine restrictions is more than a procedural dispute. It raises a fundamental question for Europe: should countries with some of the best smoking outcomes be ignored when they point to the role of safer nicotine products? With tens of thousands of smoking-related deaths still recorded each year, policy should be guided by evidence of what reduces harm, not by reflexive restrictions on every new product.
