Smoking Harm Warning Labels: Why They Mislead
Smoking harm warning labels should tell the truth clearly enough to change behaviour. The greatest danger comes from burning tobacco, yet many warnings still fail to explain the difference between combustible cigarettes and lower-risk nicotine alternatives. That gap matters because smokers may understand that smoking is harmful without knowing there are less dangerous ways to move away from it. Better risk communication should warn, inform and guide people towards choices that reduce harm.
