Serbia to raise excise on cigarettes as of Oct 1

Serbia's government said it plans to increase the excise duty on cigarettes as of October 1. The proportional component of the excise duty will remain 33% but the specific component will increase by 8% to 90.99 dinars ($0.84/0.78 euro) per pack from 84.25 dinars per pack, the government said in a document published on its website on Saturday. According to Serbia's excise calendar adopted at the end of 2020, the specific component will increase by 1.5 dinars every January and July until 2025, in order for Serbia to comply with EU standards.
