Science should be able to correct itself — that is part of its strength. In nicotine policy, the problem comes when early claims are treated as settled truth long after the evidence has moved on. Corrections matter because public understanding of vaping, risk and smoking is shaped by what researchers, media and regulators choose to repeat. Public health should be willing to update its message when the data no longer supports the alarm.
