Q&A: Why vaping is bad for your heart

Smoking, linked to nearly 500,000 American deaths yearly, mainly causes lung cancer. Vaping, initially promoted for smoking cessation, raises heart attack and stroke risks, and FDA-approved medications are recommended for quitting. Vapes deliver addictive nicotine, impacting brain reward circuits, but lack FDA evaluation for quitting smoking. Dual use with cigarettes is risky, especially among young users. Although vaping avoids some harmful cigarette chemicals, it still poses health risks. Besides affecting lung health, vaping can harm the cardiovascular system by increasing heart rate, blood pressure, and heart attack risk.
