One in five trying to quit vaping used cigarettes, survey finds
A survey by Action on Smoking and Health reveals that 19% of adults attempting to quit vaping used cigarettes, potentially due to misconceptions about the risks. Beliefs about the harm of smoking versus vaping influenced these choices. While vaping has aided 3.3 million former smokers and daily vaping has surpassed smoking in Great Britain, misconceptions persist with 52% of current smokers believing vaping is as harmful as smoking. The UK government is considering further regulations on vaping to prevent youth uptake. Cancer Research UK supports regulations that deter non-smokers while recognizing vaping's harm reduction for smokers. Balancing visibility while highlighting differences between vaping and smoking is crucial to prevent setbacks in smoking cessation efforts.
11.80% of the adult population are current smokers. There are approximately 6.7 million current smokers in United Kingdom 13.60% of men are current smokers but only 10.10% of women.
