Killing Europeans by banning nicotine pouches
Europe’s nicotine debate is becoming a test of whether policy can recognise unintended harm. Banning or restricting smoke-free products may appear protective, but it can leave cigarettes as the most accessible option for millions of adults who still smoke. The health burden comes overwhelmingly from combustion, not from the mere existence of lower-risk nicotine alternatives. A serious European strategy should reduce smoking deaths by making safer choices legal, visible and easier to use.
