Ireland urged to rethink vape policy as smoking decline stalls
Ireland’s stalled smoking decline should prompt a serious rethink of vape policy. When progress slows, restricting the very products that may help adults move away from cigarettes risks making the problem harder to solve. Youth protection matters, but it should not come at the cost of leaving smokers with fewer practical alternatives. A better approach would focus on enforcement, accurate risk communication and regulated access to lower-risk products.
17.00% of the adult population are current smokers. There are approximately 730,000 current smokers in Ireland 20.00% of men are current smokers but only 14.60% of women.
