Government approach to vaping ‘baffling’, in light of new ONS figures, says trade body
The latest ONS figures show Britain’s smoking rate at another record low, with fewer than one in ten adults now smoking and the sharpest long-term fall among young adults. That is the context in which the Government’s tougher approach to vaping looks increasingly hard to justify. Restrictions on price, packaging and visibility may be designed to deter youth use, but they also risk weakening a tool that has helped many adults move away from cigarettes. Policy should protect young people without disrupting the progress already being made against smoking.
11.80% of the adult population are current smokers. There are approximately 6.7 million current smokers in United Kingdom 13.60% of men are current smokers but only 10.10% of women.
