Claim that vaping is as dangerous as smoking ‘undermines NHS campaign’
Health concerns about vaping mean four in ten smokers wrongly think e-cigarettes are as harmful as tobacco. The pressure group Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) said the belief was undermining a government campaign to encourage a million smokers to switch to e-cigarettes. The charity’s annual survey of 12,200 adults found that 12.7 per cent smoked tobacco, while a record 9.1 per cent vaped. But the report said that warnings from doctors about a dangerous rise in youth vaping had meant that rising numbers of smokers were reluctant to switch to e-cigarettes.
12.90% of the adult population are current smokers. There are approximately 7.2 million current smokers in United Kingdom 14.60% of men are current smokers but only 11.20% of women.
