Challenging the Obsession About Youth Uptake, Data Show That US Tobacco Policy Is Focusing on the Wrong Issue

US tobacco policy remains heavily focused on youth nicotine uptake, even as smoking continues to cause the greatest harm. Recent data suggest that youth vaping has fallen substantially, while adult smokers still need realistic routes away from combustible cigarettes. Protecting young people is essential, but it should not come at the cost of blocking harm reduction for adults. Public health policy should follow the scale of harm, not only the loudest political concern.
