Brussels ran a consultation that made the Swedish answer unsayable
A consultation should make evidence easier to present, not harder to say. Sweden’s experience with low smoking rates and widespread use of smoke-free nicotine products is directly relevant to Europe’s tobacco debate, yet poorly designed questions can push that evidence to the margins. That weakens the process before policy is even written. EU regulation should be open enough to hear what has worked, especially when it challenges the assumptions behind restriction.
9.90% of the adult population are current smokers. There are approximately 867,000 current smokers in Sweden 11.70% of men are current smokers but only 8.10% of women.
