An interview with Derek Yach about his recent report: "Nicotine 2030"

Global tobacco policy is still struggling to separate nicotine use from the harms of smoking. A harm reduction approach recognises that adults who cannot or do not want to quit nicotine should still have access to safer alternatives than combustible cigarettes. The challenge is not only scientific, but institutional: evidence on relative risk often clashes with entrenched ideology. Public health should focus on reducing disease and death, not defending outdated assumptions about nicotine.
