Cigarettes remain on shelves, while safer alternatives are fought in court. That contradiction sits at the heart of too much nicotine policy: the product causing the greatest harm stays legally protected, while tools that may help adults stop smoking face endless resistance. Regulation should not make the less harmful option harder to access than the deadly one. Public health loses its logic when it treats harm reduction as the problem and cigarettes as the default.
14.10% of the adult population are current smokers. There are approximately 39.8 million current smokers in United States 17.10% of men are current smokers but only 11.10% of women.
