Following this news, rumours also quickly surfaced that both oral nicotine products, the nicotine non-tobacco-containing pouches, and snus, which are banned in the EU, but very popular in Sweden, would also be affected by the new tax, almost doubling their price.

It has long been clear that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is leery of approving nicotine vaping products in flavors other than tobacco because the agency worries that they appeal to teenagers. In a new paper, a group of leading tobacco control experts urge the US surgeon general and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to correct widespread misinformation surrounding nicotine vapes.
The article, which appears in Addiction, an esteemed peer-reviewed scientific journal, notes that the CDC does not have a clear definition of an e-cigarette. It suggests that the center adopt “e-cigarettes are electronic devices that transform a liquid containing nicotine into aerosol that is inhaled via a mouthpiece.”

AMA members are concerned about the harmful effects of vaping, which include seizures, nicotine poisoning and brain development issues.

Despite California's success in reducing tobacco use, a new study published today in JAMA Network Open demonstrates the continued and significant burden tobacco inflicts on people with cancer. The smoking ban in Austrian restaurants, which has been in force since November 1st, 2019, will be extended to "additional outdoor public places" in 2023, according to plans by Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens).
A new amendment to the Tobacco and Non-Smoker Protection Act is being worked on, according to the newspaper Der Standard. Among other things, it provides for an Austria-wide extension of the smoking ban to "additional outdoor public places" such as "children's playgrounds and recreational areas for children and young people".

Nine years ago I walked through the streets of London towards the impressive Royal Society building to attend the inaugural E-Cigarette Summit. I went to a conference where the debate was split, where optimism based on basic science was confounded by a dearth of studies, and where it looked like the UK faced an imminent ban on vaping devices.
How things have changed. After ten years in which vaping has been banned or severely restricted in much of the world, the UK has become the beacon of hope for tobacco harm reduction in the form of vaping. Much of that is due to the E-Cigarette Summit, which brings leading researchers, policymakers and more to share the latest research and views.

Most Brits would back a ban on the sale of cigarettes or tobacco to anyone born after 2008, a YouGov survey has revealed.
Fifty-seven per cent of British people would support the legislation to bar younger generations from purchasing smoking-related products, while 34 per cent said they would 'strongly' support it.
The results come after New Zealand introduced this very legislation for people born on and after 2009, meaning that they will never legally be able to smoke.
