KJ’s vape specialty store idea will disadvantage rural consumers, says NGO

The Consumer Choice Centre (CCC) has shot down former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin’s suggestion for the government to restrict sales of vape and e-cigarettes to specialty stores. Its Malaysian associate, Tarmizi Anuwar, said this would put those in rural or semi-urban areas at a disadvantage when it comes to accessibility. “Introducing a licensing system exclusively for vape shops could inadvertently push consumers towards unregulated channels, undermining public health objectives,” he said in a statement.

One in five vapers would return to smoking habit if flavours banned, survey says

More than 75pc of vapers say a ban of flavouring could lead to more young people smoking, with one in five ex-smokers saying they would also pick the habit back up if flavours were banned. It has been an offence to sell a nicotine-inhaling product to someone under the age of 18 since December, with Government plans for a restriction on the use of flavouring set to follow. A new survey from Red C Research and Marketing shows 90pc of vapers surveyed believe an overall ban could lead to a black market for flavoured vapes.

With Youth Vaping Down, Lawmakers Are Once Again Ignoring Adults

Not wanting to stymie the alarmism by acknowledging rapid declines in youth vaping, a handful of U.S. senators are again sounding the alarm on the so-called youth vaping epidemic. A recent letter to top executives of major convenience store chains “strongly encourage[s]” retailers to comply with federal regulations and remove all unauthorized e-cigarette products from their store shelves. Unfortunately, much like previous efforts from a group of Democratic lawmakers who penned previous letters (including one in 2020 urging a ban on all flavored e-cigarettes), this is another futile attempt that disregards increasing data on youth and adult e-cigarette use in the U.S.

Consumer groups urge inclusivity in fight for smoke-free society

CONSUMER groups have urged the World Health Organization to include smokers, vapers and the tobacco industry in its quest to end the global smoking problem. “The WHO tends to just attack the industry, which is a black-and-white thing for them,” said Martin Cullip, an international fellow at The Taxpayers Protection Alliance’s (TPA) Consumer Center. “But they don’t look at the complexities behind what they’re doing. And in attacking industry, they’re forgetting the people underneath who are affected.”
