Secondhand marijuana smoke from bongs can be more dangerous than secondhand cigarette smoke, researchers have found.

A new study says the reason for this is the increased concentration of fine particulate matter found in secondhand bong smoke.

Fine particulate matter penetrates the respiratory system further than larger particles, which is why it can be more harmful. The report was published on the JAMA Open Network this week and researchers from the University of California, Berkeley measured levels of the matter before, during and after eight social-smoking sessions of cannabis.
