Nicotine Science & Policy | 22 August 2014
The European vaper organisation – European Vapers United Network – has added its voice to the growing concern about the possible WHO position on electronic cigarettes.
Vaping organisations from 13 countries have written to Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of WHO, ahead of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control meeting in October, with a passionate appeal asking that WHO ‘not succumb to unjustified fear’ and do anything that would obstruct the opportunities for risk reduction provided by electronic cigarettes. This letter follows the letter from 53 scientists in May asking that WHO recognise the harm reduction opportunities of electronic-cigarettes and other safer nicotine products, and that WHO should see these products as part of the solution to smoking, not as part of the problem.
National vaping organisations have also sent the letter to their national governments and health ministers. Contact details for national organisations can be found here.
EVUN is a growing network of national vaping organisations.
